Blue Springs South sweeps individual, team titles at Tim Nixon Invitational

Blue Springs South senior Kendrick Haines kicked off his final year as a Jaguar with a victory Saturday morning at the Tim Nixon Invitational in Liberty.

Haines, who finished 67th at last year's Class 5 state meet, made a statement to begin his season. He finished a 5K course in a time of 15 minutes and 27.7 seconds.

He led the Jaguars to a team victory at the first end of the year. They scored 35 points, just edging out liberty North’s 38 points for the win. Rock Bridge finished third with 84 points.

Rounding out the top five runners for blue Springs South were senior Nolan Voigt (5), senior Aizak Miller (6), junior Burke Schweitzer (10) and junior Klayton Hayes (13). Senior Clayton Scalfaro also placed in the top 20, finishing 19th for the Jaguars.

Liberty North had two of the top three runners in the meat. Sophomore Joseph DeRouchie and junior Nathaniel Haberlach placed second and third, respectively. DeRouchie was just four seconds behind Haines.

Senior Ezra DeRouchie (7), sophomore Preston Cogan (12) and junior John Gray (14) were the other three scoring runners for the Eagles.

Platte County senior Blake Herron finished in the top five to kick off his season. He placed fourth overall in a time of 15:47.7.
