Blue Valley squads lead area teams at Olathe Twilight meet
Blue Valley Northwest senior Jacob D’souza added another victory to his resume Saturday night.
Last year’s Class 6A state champ won his second meet of the year, winning the Olathe Twilight varsity boys race. His winning 5K time was 15:17.8 – winning by six seconds.
Andrew Claar, Blue Valley Southwest junior, was the runner-up Saturday night, in a time of 15:24. He helped his squad finish fifth out of 20 teams in the red division.
Summit Christian junior Leo Butler finished third in the red division race, just seven seconds behind Claar. The two-time state medalist was the only Missouri runner in the top 15 Saturday.
A pair of Blue Valley were the next two runners to cross the line. Senior Carter Moser and junior Brayden Troutman placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Tigers were the top area team in the red division. They finished runner-up as a team with 123 points, placing second to The Classical Academy out of Colorado, who won with 83 points.
Blue Springs South finished third in the team race. The Jaguars were led by senior Wesley Morris, who placed 17th overall.
In the boys blue division, Park Hill senior Colton Hardy narrowly clipped St. Joseph Christian senior Austin Hill for the victory. Hardy won in a time of 16:19, just 0.11 ahead of Hill.
Gardner-Edgerton junior Jackson Fry and Park Hill South sophomore Elias Berry placed third and fourth, respectively.
Blue Valley North won the blue division title with 97 points. The Mustangs were led by senior Clive Guerra and sophomore Ben Gerwin, who placed ninth and 10th overall.
Girls
Defending Class 5A state champ Kaylie Shultz, a Salina Central senior, finished as the girls red division runner-up. Her 5K time was 17:45.6 – about 22 seconds behind the winner.
Vivian Jack, from Classical Academy, was the girls winner. She placed second in last year’s Class 3A state race in Colorado and led her team to a state title.
Shawnee Mission East senior Charlotte Hardy finished third in the race. The reigning Class 6A state champ finished the 5K course in a time of 18:04.7.
Liberty sophomore Tessa Perdue was the top Missouri runner in the girls red race. She placed fourth overall, running 18:14.2.
Blue Valley sophomore Kylie Page led the Tigers to a second-place team finish. She placed sixth in the race in a time of 18:19.5. The Tigers scored 155 points, edging out Blue Valley West by three points.
Spring Hill won the girls blue division title, scoring 83 points and winning by 12 points. Three Broncos finished in the top 10 of the race.
Leading the way for the Broncos was junior Adeline McConnell, who placed fourth overall. Fellow junior Esmae Niehues and sophomore Leeanna Bierbaum also finished sixth and ninth, respectively.
