Grain Valley softball remains undefeated

After a close contest with Blue Springs South last week, the Grain Valley softball team battled through a tournament over the weekend before earning another home win Monday.
Molly Jones threw a two-hit complete game shutout Monday as Grain Valley beat Fort Osage, 7-0. The Eagles had previously beaten Fort Osage, 5-0, on Sept. 1.
Abe Scott-Carlton hit two home runs in Monday’s game, bringing hone three runs to lead the Eagles’ offense. The win improved the Eagles to 22-0 and 7-0 in the conference.
Over the weekend, Grain Valley competed in the September Slam Tournament. The Eagles had one game rained out, but finished 3-0 at the event.
In the 8-3 win over Kearney, the Eagles crushed five home runs. The home run hitters were Scott-Carlton, Charlee Sanders, Lucy Dampf, Kaitlyn Morgan and Madison Rust. Jones threw 12 strikeouts and no walks in the win.
Grain Valley hit four more home runs in a 13-2 victory over Owasso (Oklahoma). The Eagles hitting bombs in that game were Sanders, Mackenzie Rust, Scott-Carlton and Jones.
The Eagles’ final tournament game was a wild 8-7 win in 10 innings over Papillion-LaVista South (Nebraska). Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Madison Rust crushed a two-run, game-tying home run.
An inning later, Grain Valley needed a RBI single from Teegan Van Dorn to force another inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Scott-Carlton hit a two-run home run, tying the game at 7.
Grain Valley held its opponent scoreless in the top of the 10th. In the bottom half of the inning, Myla Johnson hit a deep fly ball to center field, and Dampt tagged up at second before rounding third and scoring the walk-off run on an errant throw.
Grain Valley will travel to Platte County (12-7) on Tuesday before hosting Belton on Thursday.
