Makayla Clark adds school records, All-American honors to Iowa State career

Iowa State senior Makayla Clark, a Lee’s Summit West alum, broke a 36-year-old school record and earned a second-team All-America honor at the NCAA Championship last week.

In the 800-meter run semifinals, she ran her fastest time ever and broke an old record. Her time of 2:00.29 broke ISU Hall of Famer Edith Nakiyingi's school record of 2:00.88.

It became her eighth school record, which is the most by any Iowa State man or woman.

Clark just missed qualifying for the finals. She was one spot shy as she finished 10th and earned second-team All-America honors.

Later in the day on June 11, Clark earned her sixth career All-America honor in the 4x400-meter relay. The Cyclones placed 13th for second-team All-America honors.

Her other career All-America honors came in the indoor distance medley relay (first team, 2026), outdoor 800 run (second team, 2024), outdoor 800 run (honorable mention, 2025) and outdoor 4x400 (honorable mention, 2025).

In addition to her outdoor 800 school record, Clark is on the ISU record board seven times. She has school records in the outdoor 4x400, outdoor 4x800-meter relay, indoor 600-yard run, indoor 800-meter run, indoor 1,000-meter run, indoor 4x400 and indoor distance medley relay.
