Strains four medals leads Eagles to state trophy

WICHITA — Wellsville senior Ellie Strain won two gold medals and finished runner-up in a pair of others to lead her team to a third-place finish at the Class 3A state track and field meet.
Strain, a Missouri Southern signee, scored 36 of Wellsville’s 46 team points, which beat Southeast of Saline by seven points to earn a trophy. She began the second day of competition with a victory in the 100-meter hurdles, sprinting to a win in 14.37 seconds.
Her second win of the meet came hours later in the 300-meter hurdles. Her winning time was 43.8 seconds, and she won by more than a second.
Strain placed runner-up in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She was second to Nebraska commit Ashley Lehman, of Hesston, who won all four of her events.
Wellsville junior Alana Green earned 10 big points for the Eagles. She won the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 8 inches. Green won the event by 1.75 inches, and her winning jump came on her third attempt.
