Week 4 football highlights
Wildcats win wild shootout
HARRISONVILLE — It’s been a couple of wacky weeks of football for the Wildcats, but they’ve won a pair of contests after losing their first two games of the season.
Harrisonville and Center lit up the scoreboard Friday night, combining for 110 points. In the end, the Wildcats defended their home turf, winning 62-48.
A week earlier, they knocked off a ranked Odessa squad, 10-7, at home. On Friday, the Wildcats handed Center its first loss of the season.
This week, Harrisonville (2-2) will face Louisburg (Kansas) in a battle of Wildcats. Meanwhile, Center (3-1) will play Southeast at home.
Broncos top rival Tigers
LEE’S SUMMIT — For the second-straight week, Lee’s Summit North beat a cross-town rival.
On Friday night, the Broncos took down Lee’s Summit, 24-17, on their home field. The win avenged two losses to the Tigers last year.
The Broncos (3-1) took a 10-7 lead into halftime before adding a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, taking control of the contest.
Lee’s Summit North will play at Oak Park (2-2) this week. Meanwhile, Lee’s Summit (2-2) will return home to face undefeated Ray-Pec (4-0) on Friday night.
Jaguars knock off unbeaten Falcons
STALEY — A week after dropping a rivalry game, Blue Springs South hit the road Friday night and came home with a big win.
The Jaguars crushed Staley, 37-6, defeating a previously unbeaten Falcons squad.
Blue Springs South held Staley to just 40 yards rushing and less than 100 yards passing.
The Jags (2-2) will be back on the road this week. They will play at Park Hill (1-3) on Friday. Staley (3-1) will look to bounce back at Liberty North (2-2).
Panthers remain undefeated
PECULIAR — Ray-Pec kept its perfect record going Friday night when it beat Lee’s Summit West, 34-28, at home.
The Panthers jumped out to a 31-7 lead in the third quarter. Lee’s Summit West fought back and cut the lead to six with 1:45 left in the game.
The Panthers were 0-10 last year. They have begun this fall 4-0, winning a pair of game by one score or less.
Ray-Pec looks to keep it going at Lee’s Summit against the defending state champion Tigers (2-2) on Friday night. Lee’e Summit West will play Blue Springs at home.
Blue Jays earn first victory
RIVERSIDE — Following an 0-3 start to the season, Liberty notched a mark in the win column Friday night.
The Blue Jays defeated Park Hill South, 48-7, on the road. It was a much-needed win for a team that finished 10-2 last year.
The Blue Jays were led offensively by senior quarterback Cade Moberly, who completed 9 of 18 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, junior Justice Williams carried the ball 12 times for 125 yards and a pair of TDs.
Liberty (1-3) will play at North Kansas City (3-1). Park Hill South (1-3) will travel to Central (2-2).
Raytown remains unbeaten
GRAIN VALLEY— Friday’s contest came down to the wire, but the Bluejays kept their record perfect, beating the Eagles, 24-22.
Raytown is 4-0 this fall, winning the past two games on the road. Grain Valley has traded wins and losses this season.
This week. Grain Valley (2-2) will stay home to face Platte County (3-1), while Raytown (4-0) will return home to play Fort Osage (1-3).
Bulldogs continue winning ways
KANSAS CITY — For the third year in a row, Kearney has begun the fall with four-straight wins.
The Bulldogs traveled to Rockhurst and left with a 22-13 victory. It was the closest win after three-straight blowout victories.
Last year, Kearney went 14-0 en route to a state title. The Bulldogs are looking primed for another postseason run. First, they will play host to Winnetonka (1-3) on Friday night.
Rockhurst (2-2) will battle St. Thomas Aquinas (Kansas) in a battle of two private schools in the KC metro.
Warriors dominate once again
KANSAS CITY — St. Pius X continues to crush opponents week after week, and this week was no different.
The Warriors blew out Hayden (Kansas), 57-12, at home. They have outscored opponents 167-29, shutting out two teams.
St. Pius X will play across the state line Friday, traveling to St. James Academy.
